Dedication of Infants

Dedicated To The Lord

27 For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.

28 Therefore I also have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD." So they worshiped the LORD there.

                                                                                                            1 Sam 1:27-28   NKJV

Parenthood is one of the greatest privileges that we  human beings, created in the image of God, can have.

However, privileges always bring with them responsibilities. So it is with parenthood – being a parent brings with it a tremendous responsibility.

 Parents Should  address these questions

             (i)      Who Exerts the greatest influence on my child/children ?

(ii)     What sort of influence do I have on my child/children ?

(iii)     What sort of example am I setting my child/children ?

Five Basic Principles that Parents Need to Understand

Parents need to  Realise that:-

     (1)
The Main Purpose in Life is to Know and Love the Lord Jesus and LIVE for HIM.

“Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.”                                                                                                                                        Prov 22:6 KJV

     (2)    They should Care Enough about their Children  to Protect Them

Caring parents will take time and trouble to discipline their children.

     (3)       It is more Important to please God  than to please people

“Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”

                                                                                          Acts 5:29 KJV

     (4)  Children see in Us what we expect of Them

If Parents don’t make a priority of:-
  • Prayer
  • Bible Reading
  • Attending God’s House

Then their children won’t either.

     (5)   Ensure that the Love they Experience in the Home surpasses anything they may experience outside of it.

On such an occasion, we bring our child to the Lord as an expression of thanksgiving for the safe delivery of him/her.

The  Act of Dedication is a Three-fold Commitment

It is the dedication of:-
  • The Child to God by the Parents
  • The Parents themselves
  • The Church as a body

The Parents bring their child to the Lord and give him/her back to Him.

The Parents dedicate themselves to the task of bringing up their child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

The Church as a body promises to do its utmost to assist the parent to fulfill their responsibility.

We pray that the Lord will enable us by His grace to discharge our responsibility to provide the kind of environment in which this child will grow up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and in due time come to know the Lord jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord
